About Psoriasis
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. It usually starts as a small rash of redness and is required to be treated as soon as diagnosed.
Most seen on the scalp, cheeks, elbows, and knees.
The duration and severity of lesions varies from person to person and depends on several factors.
A person’s symptoms can range from mild to severe, and they may present differently according to the type of psoriasis the person has.
Common Psoriasis symptoms are:
- Red patches of skin covered with silvery scales
- Small scaling spots
- Dry, cracked skin
- Itching, burning, or soreness
- Itchy plaques
- Small bleeding points when the scale is peeled away
There is another condition which is a complication of Psoriasis known as Psoriatic arthritis. It is a systemic rheumatic disease that can not only cause inflammation of the skin, but in the eyes, heart, kidneys, and lungs as well.

Is Psoriasis Contagious?
No! Psoriasis is not contagious.
What is the link between Psoriatic Arthritis and Plaque Psoriasis?
Inflammation is a part of both Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis. They happen when the immune system attacks the body itself which is why they are autoimmune conditions. Many people with Psoriasis will never develop Psoriatic Arthritis, while some people have Psoriatic Arthritis and Psoriasis.
Will I have psoriasis forever?
Psoriasis is a long-term condition and is known to come and go with time. There is no ‘cure’, although there is a variety of treatment options available to manage Psoriasis. Everybody is different, so it can be a process of trial and error to find a treatment or combination of treatments which work well for you, but many people do find treatments which work for them.
